Street Food in Thailand

Street food snacking is an institution in Thailand. Besides being available just about everywhere, street food is cheap, clean and accessible. Although you might not recognize everything you see on first sight, you can fill in what's not familiar by asking a few questions or simply moving to the next stand. When we were in Southern Thailand, (particularly Krabi) our eyes were opened to new and different curries, soups and salads. Although competition is stiff, Krabi takes the prize for overall street food quality and value. Streetside Squid Red Curry - Bangkok, Thailand
It was hard to find a better bargain than the curry stands on Rambuttri Road near Phra Arthit Road in Bangkok. A little over $1 got you a big plate of shrimp or squid curry - sometimes big enough for two people. Goes perfectly with a mango shake. Kanom Jeem soup - Krabi, Thailand
Kanom Jeen, a soup made from a light curried fish reduction, is served with fresh vermicelli and an optional dollop of sweet peanut soup. Finish it off by topping it with anywhere from 10-20 condiments -- including cucumber, long beans, morning glory in coconut milk, pickled cabbage, asian eggplant and a host of other greens and herbs.
