Fairytale Photo Exhibit
Fairytale Photo Exhibition - February 2006, Prague. The theme of this photography exhibition was fairy tales. I chose the Story of Mother Holle by the Grimm Brothers. Here is a summary of the story, which might help in viewing the abstract photos...
Once upon a time, there was a wealthy widow with a beautiful stepdaughter and an ugly, lazy daughter. The stepdaughter did all the work of the house while the mother and daughter did nothing. One day, while the beautiful girl was spinning by the well, she started to bleed and went to the well to wash the blood off in the water. The spindle fell into the well and the girl jumped into the well after the spindle. She went through the water and came out on the other side in a fairy tale world of flowers and sunshine, into the world of Mother Holle.
The girl arrived at the house of Mother Holle and was frightened, but Mother Holle was a kind woman and took her in. In exchange for this care, the girl helped with the housekeeping. Although the girl was treated well, she soon started to get homesick. Mother Holle sent the girl get back home through the well. When the girl arrived home, she was covered in gold as a reward for her kindness and hard work.
Upon seeing the girl covered in shining gold, the greedy stepmother decided that her own daughter should do the same. She threw her own daughter down the well, but the daughter is lazy and disobedient and Mother Holle gets tired of her. Instead of returning her home covered in gold, she returns her covered in tar that can never be washed off.
