These two girls were playing around the offices of the EU micro-project program in Ban Xieng Maen (across the river from Luang Prabang). Unfortunately, its anti-litter effort and signs (in English and Lao) were not matched with trash bins in the village. Maybe that's part of next year's budget or rollout?
A selection of books on offer at Big Brother Mouse. Travelers can buy books to take with them on treks or trips to more remote areas. As Laos did not have a tradition of children's books, these were developed with the help of university students, student artists and teachers. The stories and illustrations are fun, but definitely have a Laos feel to it. Many are in English and Lao so that students can use the book to improve their English as well. Audrey had a lot of fun reading all of them, especially the Cat that Meditated. Moral of the story is don't trust a cat that says its a vegetarian (we can't go against our nature).
