Fog and stone ramparts along the River Alzette -- Luxembourg City. A sort of place that looks as though it were quarried right out of the valley in which it sits. From huge, loping bridges and viaducts to a tiny mysterious chapel tucked into stone, the town and its geography forced my mind to wander and wonder: "What was it like to be in this very spot 500 years ago?" Or, maybe it was just the effect of the weather.

Happy International Women’s Day! This is one of our photos that will be featured in the Planet Her photo exhibition that we (Uncornered Market) are co-hosting along with @gadventures and @lonelyplanet all this week in Berlin (March 8-13). In addition to showcasing photographs and vignettes of women drawn from our work and travels from Ethiopia to Tajikistan, Planet Her is intended to spur conversation regarding the potential of the tourism industry to create opportunities for local women that can aid access to education and financial independence. I took “Political Rally” in Tupiza, Bolivia during a gathering in support of Evo Morales prior to a coming presidential election. I was struck by this woman — her energy, spirit, and expression. “Investing in Women: A Traveler's Perspective" is up on the blog (link in profile). The article is my $0.02 on the meaning and imperative behind and beyond International Women’s Day. The image is one I took of a mother and daughter outside of Lalibela, Ethiopia. Mom takes a break from helping the entire village prepare for a 500-person wedding the following day. It's one of the lead images from Planet Her, a photo exhibit we are co-hosting this week in Berlin. Happy St. Patrick's Day! This is a shot from one of my all-time favorite places, the island of Skellig Michael off the western coast of Ireland and County Kerry. The island is known for consistently poor weather. The day we visited, the seas were almost eerily placid and the sky cloudless. Stone walls and stairs and beehive monastic cells hint at the 6th-8th century beginnings and original settlement of the island, whose ownership is now shared by the Office of Public Works and an organization known as the Commissioners of Irish Lights. Bicycling the Berlin Wall, Germany

The Berlin Wall stands now only in memories and fragments -- including this portion, one might call The Dictator Series. Last weekend, we cycled the entirety of the wall's path, 100 miles. I was struck not only by the metaphor of division (something apparently humanity still struggles with today), but also the idea of tipping or inflection points. Today, we fly. We're excited to return to one of our favorite destinations: Kyrgyzstan. Years ago we spent close to two months there while making our way through Central Asia. This time, we look forward to trekking a new area in the Tian Shan Mountains...and to attending the World Nomad Games.
