Gaudi's Casa Mila - Barcelona, Spain
The architect Antoni Gaudi's unique approach to Art Nouveau plays an important role in defining Barcelona's architectural style. His Casa Mila (completed 1910) is an example of his ideal of modern apartment living. Like its rooftop, the building is devoid of straight lines.
Mired in a sea of cranes in the distance is La Sagrada Famiglia Church, Gaudi's unfinished final work. Work continues to this day, almost 80 years after the architect's death.
We arrive in Barcelona expecting only to stay a few days. However, its spirit and wide variety of accessible art, cultural and architectural venues easily convince us that we need more time to explore.
