No, we're not at the top yet...but getting closer. We departed high camp at 5 AM to catch the early light on the mountains on the way up to Thorong La (5,416 meters/17,700 feet). On a high after making it to Thorong La Pass (5,461 meters), the highest point of the Annapurna Circuit trek in Nepal. It took ten days of walking to get to this point. Our joy was short lived, as the wind whipped up, the clouds rolled in, and an afternoon descent of 1600 meters to the town of Muktinath awaited. Clouds clear at dawn, giving us a glimpse of the mountains surrounding the village of Muktinath. The village was our first encounter with "civilization" - jeeps, tractors, motorcycles since the beginning of our trek.
